Vacation time is the ultimate reading season. There is nothing quite like diving into stories that reshape your senses, thoughts, and imagination while you’re on the move. During my travels, I managed to devour a massive stack of books—everything from The Liberation of Sita and On The Banks of the Pampa by Volga to several timeless classics. While I’m going to try my best to bring as many of them to the blog as possible, there is one particular book that I absolutely had to share with you first.
I actually had the unique privilege of being a small part of this book’s journey before it hit the shelves. But let me tell you, reading the final, finished, proofread version is a completely different, magical experience.

First Impressions & Atmospheric Setting
Just take a look at that cover—it is absolutely beautiful, yet there is something deeply sinister lurking just beneath the surface.
Being originally from Rajasthan, the setting of this book hit incredibly close to home for me. Neil paints the arid landscape, the sweeping palaces, the local herds, and the imposing havelis so vividly that I could practically feel the desert dust. Reminds me of Jawai Bera that has leapords roaming around (if you happen to be there – kindly keep your distance and respect the wildlife and local inhabitants) But beyond the physical landscape, he perfectly captures the cultural atmosphere: the deep-rooted respect for feudal lords, the complex social interactions, and the way behavioral traits are passed down through generations.
The Plot: Generations, Curses, and Dark Energies
The story revolves around the Ruhera family, who have been struck by a devastating generational curse. At its core, the book explores a woman’s desires and wishes, and how a curse can grow, fester, and solidify over time due to various compounding factors.
Now, a lot of us in the modern world might shrug off the supernatural. But The Curse of the Maharani reminds us that the universe functions in ways we can’t always explain. Even if black magic, tantra, and dark entities are beyond our everyday comprehension, this book dives headfirst into those dark energies that alter worldviews.
What makes this book so fascinating is its multi-generational appeal:

His signature plot twists, sharp turns, and vivid imagination bring every single incident to life. I knew I was in safe hands because I trust Neil’s writing implicitly, but even I was blown away. I literally could not put this book down—I read it from the very first page to the last in one single sitting.
